DIEZ AÑOS of Civil

Art of Club activation for Civil Coffee

Brief: Civil Coffee’s 10-year anniversary needed more than a party — it needed a cultural moment that honored a decade of comunidad, creativity, and LA roots. The challenge was creating a unified campaign that felt celebratory, elevated, and unmistakably Civil, while driving real-world excitement leading up to the anniversary event.

Idea: We built a multi-month, city-wide storytelling campaign anchored in iconic Civil symbolism. Scroll for the story.

We took over the Highland Theatre marquee, transforming it into a neighborhood landmark announcement and a love letter to the community.

A pink painted marking with the number 10 on a gray concrete sidewalk with fallen leaves and a dark spot.

We made Civil diamond spray-paint stencils across Highland Park — a subtle street-level breadcrumb trail inviting people into the celebration.

Comparison of two pavement markings on the ground with red diamond shapes containing the number 10, one on a light-colored concrete surface and the other on a dark asphalt surface, with a person's white sneakers visible at the bottom of the image.

Next came the letterpress “Golden Ticket” invitations — tactile, collectible pieces designed to spark curiosity and signal exclusivity. A social media activation made for real life.

Street scene featuring a green building with a striped awning, a bus stop shelter, and a traffic light showing green. A street sign reading 'Figueroa' is visible, as is a digital sign announcing a party at Civil Coffee Block on November 15 at 7 pm.
Invitation to a ten-year civil evening celebration on November 15th, 2025, at 7 PM, with instructions to follow on social media for entry details and the chance to win gift cards.

Online and offline, we layered anticipation through a curated art exhibition:
La Onda – Creativity Sin Fronteras

People gathered inside a coffee shop called CHILL, Highland Park, seen through the shop's glass door, with some people sitting at tables and others standing, engaging in conversations, and artwork on the walls.
A crowded bar or restaurant with people socializing, some holding drinks in disposable coffee cups. The space has modern hanging lights, large windows, and a high ceiling. An exit sign is visible above a door, and people are engaged in conversations and interactions.
A woman DJ wearing headphones and a black shirt is adjusting a record on a turntable, with DJ equipment on a wooden table in front of her. Hats, magazines, and a grey cap are on the table. The background is a blue wall.
Interior of a cafe or restaurant with hanging black pendant lights, colorful artwork on the wall, and seating arrangements including tables, chairs, and shelves with boxes labeled 'CIVIL' and 'CHEMEX.' Plants and a patterned carpet add to the decor.

The campaign culminated in a massive Latte Art Throwdown & Anniversary Party that brought together baristas, artists, neighbors, and longtime Civilians for a night of pure energy. We partnered with brands like La Marzocco, Flamingo Estate, Mas Vida Tequila, Evil Cooks, On Maritime Records and more to create an indoor/outdoor experience, setting Civil up for the next decade. The result was a 360° campaign that turned a milestone into a movement and made everyone feel part of the story.
